The Health, Aging, and Body Composition Study was directed by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The NIA was established to improve the health and wellbeing of older people through research. As part of its mission, the NIA investigates ways to support healthy aging and prevent or delay the onset of diseases disproportionately affecting older adults.
While the Health ABC Study is no longer recruiting participants, it can be used as a resource to study the relationship between body composition and age-related diseases and disability.
